WAH Look #13 - Shatter

I always forget about my shatter polishes, but once I use them I remember why I love 'em.
I suppose I got a bit bored, and new things come along and they just end up collecting dust in my Spice Racks!

This is another look that I wasn't sure about when I saw it on the book. I thought that everyone had sort of got over shatter, but like the last mani, I loved it once on the nail.

Before the shatter top coat.

Doesn't the shatter coat hide a multitude of sins!!!
For these I used Barry M 295 Turquoise and Illamasqua Rare. The shatter top coat is Barry M also, but soooo many companies do them now.

I really enjoyed wearing these.
And I promise to try use some different colours, I feel like I'm using the same ones over and over!

Hope you like and I'll see ya next time,

A little suttin'....

So who forgot that it's blog day? Hi.
I blame the bank holiday! Have no idea what day it is...

As I'm completely unprepared, I decided that I would instead share with you the fact that I have a new blog about basically everything else other than nail polish!

I don't love other things like I do polish, so nothing warrants a whole blog space. But I am passionate about enough things to justify putting my thoughts on the internet machine ;-)

If you would like to get involved in majestic daily life, head to >> http://itshollykins.blogspot.com <<

Have fun!

WAH Look #12 - Stained Glass

This look from the WAH book is my absolute favourite so far!
I honestly took one look at this mani in the book and thought ew, do I have to?!
But then I put it on my nails and I'm in looooove!

*Photo taken from the WAH Nails Book of Nail Art by Sharmadean Reid*

*Photo taken from the WAH Nails Book of Nail Art by Sharmadean Reid*

Colours are Barry M 272 Shocking Pink, 307 Lemon Ice cream, 137 Lime Green and Chanel Blue Boy. The black I used is Barry M too.

I love this mani on my short nails. I love the colour combination, and the way the black makes them pop. I just bloody love it!!

I hope you like these too :-)

See you next time,

WAH Look #11 - Fash Life

Look number 11 makes me think of Gwen Stefani....#nodoubt
Todays mani from the WAH Nails book of nail art is called Fash Life.
It's not my favourite if I'm honest, but I still like it obvs! They can do no wrong in my eyes ♥

*Photo taken from The WAH Nails Book of Nail Art by Sharmadean Reid*

For these nails, I decided the best bet was to go bright or go home. (see what I did there)
I used Illamasqua Rare for the yellow, Barry M 272 Shocking Pink and Models Own x Hed Kandi Beach Party for the orange.
The black is Barry M.

The book says to write New York London etc. on the nail, but I wrote WellNailed, 'cos, well....

I hope you like these and I hope you all have a fabulous bank holiday weekend!!!

WAH Look #10 - POW!

10 whole looks from the WAH nails book! I am so proud of myself!
Today's mani is called POW! and is badass! Inspired by comic book graphics and pop artists such as Lichtenstein, this look is about bright, primary colours, sharp lines and the occasional polka dot :-)

*Photo taken from The WAH Nails Book of Nail Art by Sharmadean Reid*

*Photo taken from The WAH Nails Book of Nail Art by Sharmadean Reid*

All basic colours which you can find anywhere! Mine are all Barry M apart from the yellow, which is Illamasqua.

I enjoyed doing this mani, even though it took me aaaaages and took every ounce of my patience and then a bit more!
All the detailing is done with a nail art brush, as I'm not in possession of nail art pens :-(

After doing all these designs from the WAH  book, I've decided that nail art pens are probably a good idea. There's only so much I can do with a paint brush!

I hope you like these, I do ;-)

See you next time,

WAH Look #9 - 90's Hip Hop

Look number nine in the WAH series!! This look is called 90's Hip Hop, and I love it. I do think it looks tons better on a longer nail, but hey, my little stubbies work ok too :-)

* Photo taken from The WAH Nails Book of Nail Art by Sharmadean Reid*

* Photo taken from The WAH Nails Book of Nail Art by Sharmadean Reid*

For these jazzy creations, I used Barry M 308 Berry Icecream as my base colour. Then I used Illamasqua Self (yellow) and Gamma (orange), and Barry M 302 Fushia and 47 Black for the dots and detailing.

Like I said, i love this design! and it really does make me think of the 90's. Aahhhh, childhood ;-)

And again, a design I've never tried before, which, as I keep saying, is something I'm really enjoying about doing these WAH mani's.

I hope you like these, and I'll see ya next time!

WAH Look #8 - Letterhead

Look 8!! Almost a third of the way through :-)
I'm having such a good time trying out techniques I've never tried before. I am running into the odd difficulty, but life would be boring if not!
That's a bit deep for a Friday night!
Anyway, here comes mani 8 from the WAH book - Letterhead -

*Photo taken from The WAH Nails Book of Nail Art by Sharmadean Reid*

*Photo taken from The WAH Nails Book of Nail Art by Sharmadean Reid*

For these 'Sailor Jerry@ stylee nails, I used e.l.f in Nude as, well, my nude base. I used Barry M 47 Black and Illamasqua Scorch for the white.

I love the look of these nails. I'm into my tattoo's and that jazz so the style of this mani really appealed to me. I just hope I just did it justice!!

Hope you like and have a fabulous weekend!

*Photo taken from The WAH Nails Book of Nail Art by Sharmadean Reid*

For these nails I used Illamsqua Muse and Barry M 47 Black.

Usual issues with the shaky hands!! But overall not too bad ;-)

Thanks for coming, hope you enjoy!

WAH Look #6 - Camouflage

Time for look six from the WAH book! This mani looks like it should be kinda easy but is actually deceptively difficult. As it says in the book "looks random, but actually isn't".

Look six, is Camouflage -

*Photo taken from The WAH Nails Book of Nail Art by Sharmadean Reid*

*Photo taken from The WAH Nails Book of Nail Art by Sharmadean Reid*

I'm sorry about the awful clean up job! I thought I'd done well but they look crappy in the pictures :-( Obviously need an eye test!

This mani calls for a neon yellow base, so I had to use my Illamasqua Rare! I used Barry M 272 Shocking Pink and 2921 Cobalt Blue for the camo detail.

I hope you like these and you're having a fab weekend!

See you Monday (hopefully!).

The Liebster Award!!

I've been tagged in my first ever award :-D
It's amazing to receive an award like this as it means you've been acknowledged by your peers, which is always nice!!

I've been tagged by Becky at The Nail Art Hobby. Thank you!!

For this tag, you need to do the following:
1. Each person tagged must post 11 things about themselves.
2. They must also answer the 11 questions the 'tagger' has set for them.
3. They must create 11 more questions to ask bloggers they have decided to tag.
4. They must then choose 11 bloggers with less than 200 followers and tag them in their post.
5. These lucky bloggers must then be told.
6. There's no tag backs.

So here we go....

11 Things About Me

  1. I have had so many pets in years gone by, my house has been like a zoo! I've had dogs, guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets, fish, and birds of prey too! Thankfully not all at the same time ;-)
  2. I know it's weird, but I have a huge fascination with psychopaths, mainly serial killers! I'm really interested in what drives people to commit such hideous crimes. Anyway.....
  3. My favourite musician of all time is Lenny Kravitz. His music makes me happy :-)
  4. My second toe is longer than my big toe! Ew.
  5. This one time, I met Thierry Henry and it was the single greatest moment of my life!
  6. I read Vogue like it's the bible. Not that I've ever read the bible..
  7. I cried at 'The House Bunny', but not at 'Titanic' or 'Brokeback Mountain' or 'The Notebook' or 'Dear John' etc.etc.
  8. I love to dance, and have done for about 10 years now. My class just folded, so I'm going to start going to The Northern Ballet for lessons, which I am SO excited about!
  9. There are actual real life Samurai swords in my house.
  10. Since the Olympics I have become OBSESSED with gymnastics, but I'm too much of a puff to try it!
  11. And finally, I have three tattoos. One for my family, one for my Grandpa, and one of some marbles, so I can't lose them ;-)

Questions set by the Blogger

1. What/Who got you started with nail art and how long have you been doing it?
I mainly got started in nail art because I was bored with just wearing colour on my nails. I was aware of people like Sophy Robson and WAH Nails, who were obviously a huge inspiration! I've been doing nail art for just over a year now.
2. How long have you been blogging for?
I've been blogging for just over a year too! I've basically learned as I've been blogging!

3. What is your favourite colour to wear on your nails?
I'm gonna have to say blue! Such a hard question though!

4. Favourite nail art technique? (Water marbling, stamping, gradient, etc)
I really love freehand, even if I'm crap at it!

5. How many different polishes do you own?
OMG I have absolutely no idea. It's around 250 though. A mere drop in the ocean ;-)

6. Do you have a favourite polish that you keep buying when you run out?
I've never had to re-purchase in my life! Apart from a Barry M black, but that's 'cos it went all thick and gloopy!

7. Any tips/tricks you've learnt whilst doing your nails?
Literally everything!

8. Most you've ever spent on nail polish?
I tend to go mental for Chanel which have just gone up to £18. Boo!

9. How often do you paint your nails?
Whenever I can be bothered really. I don't like to force myself to do them, because I know that it won't be my best work if my hearts not in it. Usually about 5 times a week though!

10. Where do you get your inspiration for nail art?
I don't even know where to start! Fashion, nature, a book I'm reading, it could be the colour combination of an orange car with black wheels, or my sofa that's like a purple weave. Other bloggers obviously, though I try not to knowingly copy anyone!

11.  Favourite design you've blogged?
Either my diamond jubes - here, or this stamping jazz - here

I haven't tagged anyone else because I don't follow anyone who has less than 200 followers! How bad is that?! And now I feel REALLY awful about it!
Something I'm definitely going to change.

I hope you found this interesting?!!

And thanks again to Becky :-)

The Sale of www.onlinenailbar.com!!!

Something a bit different today!

So, a couple of weeks ago I, along with a bunch of other nail bloggers, got an email from the lovely Carrie of onlinenailbar.com, asking if we would be interested in helping her with the sale of her website.

In her email, Carrie said she was asking us as she thinks the site should go to someone who loves nails and would be passionate about the site, and I agree completely.

The website is listed on Flippa HERE!!, and has the low starting price of $500!

As onlinenailbar.com is already an established website it would be an amazing opportunity for a blogger or nail professional, and imagine all the goodies you'll get to try out before they go on sale!

It would also mean you could have booths and stalls at events, throw nail parties, getting your name out there and earning some extra offline income.

Along with the sale of onlinenailbar.com, Carrie will be including an absolute Aladdin's Cave of nail art goodies, with a retail price of over £3,000!! Some of which I've been lucky enough to try out, and I can tell you first hand how amazing they are :-)

The listing ends on 31.08.2012, so get your bids in NOW!

WAH Look #4 - Aztec Tribal

Another look I've never tried before!

I've always liked Aztec nail art, but never really had the patients to try it out. So when I saw it in the book I was kinda excited that I had to give it a go!

*Photo taken from The WAH Nails Book of Nail Art by Sharmadean Reid*

*Photo taken from The WAH Nails Book of Nail Art by Sharmadean Reid*

For these nails I used all Barry M's 47 Black, 66 Matt White, 272 Shocking Pink and 300 Acid Green.

I found this look quite tricky as it requires a steady hand and a lot of patients, of which I have neither!

I don't think they're too bad for my first ever go, but at least I (sort of) know what I'm in for now when doing this look!

I hope you like these :-)
Have a fabulous weekend and I'll see ya Monday!
